An Bord Pleanála grants permission for Cloncreen wind farm

Bord na Móna welcomes the decision by An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission for its proposed wind farm at Cloncreen, Co Offaly.

The wind farm at Cloncreen, Co Offaly will consist of 21 turbines with a maximum ground to blade tip height of 170m. It is envisaged that it will produce electricity to power over 30,000 Irish Homes per annum, for 25 years.

The site of the proposed development is located in the townlands of Cloncreen, Clongarret, Esker More, Rathvilla or Rathclonbrackan, Ballinrath, Ballynakill and Ballykilleen, Ballina and Ballinagar, Co. Offaly. The site measures 3km north-south by 4km east-west covering a total of 960 hectares. The maximum proposed permanent footprint of the proposed development measures 40.1 hectares, which represents approximately 4 per cent of the site.

The proposed wind farm site is approximately 4.5 kilometres southwest of Edenderry at its nearest point. The villages of Clonbullogue and Rhode are located approximately 2.0 kilometres southeast and 7.0 kilometres northwest of the site, respectively.

Bord na Móna will continue to engage with the local communities in relation to the project and has been in an ongoing process of engagement with local communities regarding the wind farm since Autumn 2015.

Bord na Móna is studying the decision to inform how it will now progress the project.
