Bord na Móna Statement regarding the proposed smokeless and biomass based solid fuel manufacturing facility at Foynes

Bord na Móna is pursuing a sustainable business strategy. The proposed smokeless and biomass based solid fuel manufacturing facility at Foynes, Co Limerick, supports this strategy and will help secure employment in the region in a commercially and increasingly environmentally sustainable business.

Bord na Móna’s investment estimate for the development is in the region of €20 million.  The development will generate up to 140 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 60 jobs in the operation phase.

As the leading Irish heating fuels company, Bord na Móna must actively participate in the delivery of increased production of smokeless fuels to serve the current and future demands of the Irish market.

Bord na Móna has a long standing association with and commitment to its Foynes facility. Following a site selection study, the company decided to develop the proposed new facility on its existing site at Foynes, where it already operates a significant fuel bagging facility.
