Bord na Móna is pleased to announce the opening of Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gains Scheme for communities near to Mountlucas Wind Farm in eastern Co. Offaly. The fund will distribute just over €100,000 to community and voluntary groups, non-profit groups, clubs and societies, or organisations with a charitable status which aim to deliver community good and services in the vicinity of the wind farm.
Making the announcement on behalf of Bord na Móna’s Mountlucas Wind Farm today, Operations Manager Tom Egan said: “Bord na Móna is delighted to announce the launch of the 2025 Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gains Scheme and are really looking forward to working with the local communities on the delivery of projects which will benefit the people living near to the wind farm. Bord na Móna is committed to ensuring that local community’s benefit from the development of renewable energy infrastructure projects in their area, which are needed to support the transition to a carbon neutral society. Our team will continue to work closely with the local community in the rollout of the Scheme and are eager to hear from anyone with project ideas.”
Bord na Móna administers the scheme and an awards committee is drawn from the local communities of Daingean, Mount Lucas and Walsh Island. This local committee decides which projects are granted financial support. Since the launch of the Fund in 2014, over €1 million of funding has been committed to local community groups to date. The funding has benefited schools, sports clubs, general amenity, social initiatives, as well as community facilities to date.
The Mountlucas Wind Farm Community Gains Scheme 2025 opened on Monday 24th February for applications. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday, 7th April 2025.
